Private John Kyle

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present, other than that, soon after the war, he lived at Brookmount Terrace, Omagh, County Tyrone.

John Kyle enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 4 and 10 March 1914 (No.919 – later Corps of Hussars 71159). On 22 September 1915 he embarked for France with a small reinforcement draft – he was posted to A or D Squadron.

In May 1916 A and D Squadrons came together with E Squadron to form the 1st North Irish Horse Regiment, serving as corps cavalry to VII, XIX, then V Corps until February-March 1918, when the regiment was dismounted and converted to a cyclist unit, serving as corps cyclists to V Corps until the end of the war.

Kyle remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 10 February 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
